» Amanda Kendle - Nordic walking

Hi Lisa, interesting post about the meaning of "nordic". I'd never thought about it before, but "nordic walking" is also immensely popular here in Germany - and I have to admit I'd associated it more with Norway than anything. Is it only known in Europe??
cheers

Dear Amanda,

Interesting! As far as I know, it is only popular in Europe. In Finland you see people of all ages doing it. Of course, I thought it was something invented by the Finns, but probably not...

Yep, in Germany, too, *everybody* does it. Well, almost. The first time I saw it I thought they were off-season skiiers gone mad, but now I understand that it's actually super-healthy. I just can't bring myself to try it :-) - yet friends my age do it. Have you tried????

I haven't tried it either, but I plan to before the snow hits the ground. Some people in Finland even use their Nordic walking poles while rollerblading!

Here are some helpful links with how to information http://www.nordicwalking.com/portal/nord...

and a pole length calculator
